Why Wildlife & Fiction ?

Gareth Parkes

Nature, fieldcraft, imagination, and the quiet hope of better worlds.

Why I Write About Wildlife

Nature is where I reset. It’s where I breathe. It’s where clarity returns.

Wildlife gives me:

  • perspective
  • calm
  • renewal
  • curiosity
  • connection
  • meaning

Birds especially — their behaviour, their migrations, their presence in marshes, estuaries, wetlands, and shorelines — give me a sense of wonder that never fades.

I write wildlife journals because they help me understand the world more clearly. I share them because they help others reconnect with the natural world.

My wildlife writing is clarity in its purest form: seeing what’s really there.

Fieldcraft — The Art of Paying Attention

Fieldcraft is not just technique. It’s a way of being.

It teaches:

  • patience
  • observation
  • respect
  • silence
  • awareness
  • humility

It’s the practice of noticing small things — the rustle in the reeds, the shift in the wind, the call of a distant bird, the shape of a track in the sand.

Fieldcraft is clarity outdoors. It’s the same clarity I teach in business, expressed through nature.

My Wildlife Journals

I create wildlife journals to help myself:

  • record sightings
  • understand behaviour
  • track migrations
  • document fieldcraft moments
  • reflect on travel
  • stay connected to nature

And I share them to help others:

  • learn
  • explore
  • observe
  • appreciate
  • reconnect

These journals are part of my creative studio — a blend of writing, photography tokens, field notes, and art.

⭐ My Fiction Work

Fiction is where my clarity becomes imagination. It’s where I explore the world as it is — and the world as it could be.

I write fiction because I believe in possibility. I believe in hope. I believe in the quiet strength of ordinary people.

Below are the four pillars of my fiction universe.

Fogborn — Atmospheric, Psychological, Human

Fogborn is my primary fiction universe — a blend of:

  • atmosphere
  • mystery
  • psychological depth
  • emotional truth
  • clarity under pressure
  • the tension between darkness and hope

Fogborn explores how people find meaning, courage, and clarity in uncertain worlds.

It is fiction shaped by observation, detail, and the search for truth.

WideSky Series — Hope, Adventure, Possibility

WideSky is my expansive, imaginative series built around:

  • wide horizons
  • human potential
  • exploration
  • courage
  • the belief that better worlds are possible

Where Fogborn is atmospheric and introspective, WideSky is open, hopeful, and forward‑looking.

It’s clarity expressed through adventure.

Benji Boos Series — Heart, Curiosity, Companionship

Benji Boos is inspired by Benji — your Sheltie companion — and captures:

  • innocence
  • curiosity
  • loyalty
  • small adventures
  • gentle humour
  • the joy of companionship

This series brings warmth and light to your fiction work, showing the world through the eyes of a character who sees everything with wonder.

It’s clarity expressed through kindness.

Colonel Fitch — Discipline, Duty, Leadership

Colonel Fitch is your character of:

  • structure
  • discipline
  • leadership
  • moral clarity
  • strategic thinking
  • quiet strength

He represents the intersection of your business clarity and your fiction — a character who leads with purpose, integrity, and calm authority.

It’s clarity expressed through character.

⭐ How Wildlife and Fiction Connect

People often ask why I write wildlife journals and fiction.

The answer is simple:

Both help people see the world differently.

Wildlife shows us the world as it is. Fiction shows us the world as it could be.

Together, they create a powerful lens:

Nature → Clarity → Imagination

This is the foundation of my creative identity.

My Mission in Wildlife & Fiction

To help people reconnect with nature, rediscover clarity, and imagine better worlds — through fieldcraft, storytelling, and the quiet hope found in wild places.
